AMDTreat

Estimates abatement costs for pollutional mine drainage, commonly referred to as Acid Mine Drainage (AMD). AMDTreat can assist a user in estimating costs to abate water pollution using a variety of passive and chemical treatment types; including, vertical flow ponds, anoxic limestone drains, anaerobic wetlands, aerobic wetlands, manganese removal beds, oxic limestone channels, caustic soda, hydrated lime, pebble quicklime, ammonia and soda ash treatment systems. The AMD abatement cost model considers over 400 variables in estimating costs for treatment facility construction, excavation, revegetation, piping, road construction, land acquisition, system maintenance, labor, water sampling, design, surveying, pumping, sludge removal, chemical consumption, clearing and grubbing, mechanical aeration, and ditching.

Ecological Structure Activity Relationships (ECOSAR)

The program predicts the toxicity of industrial chemicals to aquatic organisms such as fish, invertebrates, and algae by using Structure Activity Relationships (SARs). The program estimates a chemical's acute (short-term) toxicity and, when available, chronic (long-term or delayed) toxicity.

HEC-GeoHMS

GeoHMS uses ArcView and Spatial Analyst to develop a number of hydrologic modelng inputs. Analyzing digital terrain information, HEC-GeoHMS transforms the drainage paths and watershed boundaries into a hydrologic data structure that represents the watershed response to precipitation. Internet Geographical Exposure Modeling System (IGEMS)
By US Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT). IGEMS is a modernization of OPPT's older Graphical Exposure Modeling System and PCGEMS tools. IGEMS brings together in one system several EPA environmental fate and transport models and some of the environmental data needed to run them. IGEMS includes models and data for ambient air, surface water, soil, and ground water, and makes the models much easier to use than their stand-alone counterparts. IGEMS will have graphics and Geographical Information System (GIS) capabilities for displaying environmental modeling results.

MINTEQA2 is a equilibrium speciation model that can be used to calculate the equilibrium composition of dilute aqueous solutions in the laboratory or in natural aqueous systems. The model is useful for calculating the equilibrium mass distribution among dissolved species, adsorbed species, and multiple solid phases under a variety of conditions including a gas phase with constant partial pressures. A data base is included for solving a broad range of problems without need for additional user-supplied equilibrium constants.

The Multimedia Contaminant Fate, Transport, and Exposure Model (MMSOILS) estimates the human exposure and health risk associated with releases of contamination from hazardous waste sites. The methodology consists of a multimedia model that addresses the transport of a chemical in groundwater, surface water, soil erosion, the atmosphere, and accumulation in the foodchain. The human exposure pathways considered in the methodology include: soil ingestion, air inhalation of volatiles and particulates, dermal contact, ingestion of drinking water, consumption of fish, consumption of plants grown in contaminated soil, and consumption of animals grazing on contaminated pasture.

Water Quality Standards and Criteria
By US Environmental Protection Agency and Purdue University. Provides a framework for maintenance and improvement of water quality when adopted by States, U.S. Territories, and Indian Tribes. This software presents the three components of State and Tribal water quality standards: waterbody uses (e.g. swimming, boating), water quality criteria or limits on chemical concentrations that may be present the waterbody, and antidegradation policy to protect existing water quality. It explains how Indian tribes can become involved, and describes discretionary policies that affect water quality standards (WQS), economic considerations in the WQS program, EPA's role and responsibility in the WQS process, and implementation of WQS through National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. Relevant sections of the Clean Water Act are included, along with information on use attainability analysis, the submittal/approval process, implementation, and public involvement. Additionally, the user is provided with resources, contacts, a glossary of terms, and several examples of water quality standards.

Water-Effect Ratio for Metals
